The Red Devils Set to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for United

The forward, with half a year left on her contract, has been a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee signing for the WSL side.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated after she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading forwards. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Reliable Goal Threat to Boost the Attack

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant uplift to United’s attacking options. She has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club appear to be building momentum.

Their recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official stated: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the American league, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
