Russian President Vladimir Putin Vows Continuous Oil Shipments to the Indian Nation in Defiance of US Sanctions

Amid a unambiguous signal to the United States, Leader Vladimir Putin has told PM Narendra Modi that Russia stands ready to provide “unbroken” supplies of energy resources to India. This declaration came when Putin and Modi met in New Delhi and declared their relationship were “resilient to external pressure.”

A Statement Directed at the Western Countries

Putin's comments, made on Friday, seemed to be a pointed rebuke at the United States and its allies, who have tried to compel New Delhi into scaling back its close relations with Moscow. This comes is in response to recent US actions, notably the introduction of tariffs against Indian goods because of its purchase of Moscow's energy exports.

“Russia is a trustworthy source of energy resources and everything required for the growth of India’s energy sector,” Putin remarked. “Moscow stands willing to continue guaranteeing the steady supply of energy for the booming Indian economy.”

The Indian leader, while not mentioning oil explicitly, reinforced the focus by saying that “secure fuel supplies has been a robust and important foundation of the India-Russia alliance.”

Defying Washington's Stance

Prior to the summit, in a television interview, Putin had criticized Washington's stance regarding India's energy purchases. Putin stated, “When Washington can claim the privilege to buy our nuclear fuel, why shouldn’t India claim the equivalent access?”

The visit marked his maiden trip to India since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, and both sides undertook a visible attempt to display that the bond between the two leaders persisted strongly.

A Personal Reception

In a notable step, the Indian PM welcomed directly Putin as he disembarked. The two shared a warm hug as old friends before having a private dinner together.

The Indian prime minister in his statement called India's relationship with Russia as “a lodestar” and added it was “based on shared respect and strong faith.”

Expanding Defence and Economic Ties

The meeting produced a number of significant pacts regarding military and financial collaboration. A major outcome was the finalization of an strategic roadmap aimed at 2030, which aims to double bilateral trade to one hundred billion dollars per year by the target year.

Additionally agreed to reshape their military partnership. Even as Russia continues to be India's primary source of arms, this role has reduced in recent years as India aims to widen its sources.

Their communique highlighted an agreement on the joint production of advanced weapons platforms, even if specific reference of deals for the Su-57 fighter jet were not made.

Overall, Moscow and Delhi affirmed that during the “current complex, tense, and unpredictable international environment, their relationship continue to be strong to foreign influence.”
