Music Legend Barry Manilow Will Have an Operation for a Lung Cancer Diagnosis.

Barry Manilow announced that he was diagnosed with cancer of the lung and will be having surgery.

Cancer Caught Early

The octogenarian performer, famous for his series of beloved anthems from "Mandy" cemented his status as one of pop music’s cherished entertainers, will have a procedure to remove part of his lung in an effort to combat the illness, which is at an early phase.

“For those who have been following, I recently endured six weeks of bronchitis followed by a return of another five weeks.

“Although I was over the bronchitis and performing again at the Westgate Las Vegas, my excellent physician requested an MRI just to be certain that there were no issues.

“The MRI detected a malignant lesion on my left side that requires removed. It’s incredible chance (and a fantastic physician) that it was discovered so early.”

Rescheduled Shows

He has delayed a number of planned live performances, but suggested he would be on stage again by mid-February for his long-running concert series at the Westgate Las Vegas Resort and Casino.

He continued: “The medical team do not believe it has spread and I’m taking tests to support their conclusion. So, that’s it. No chemo. Radiation therapy is off the table. Just home remedies and classic TV.

“I’m eagerly awaiting until I return to my home away from home in Las Vegas for our Valentine’s weekend concerts.”

Professional and Personal Journey

Manilow is currently in the 16th year of a show in Nevada. The singer has spent decades in the public eye and came out as gay in 2017, after tying the knot with his partner of many years, Garry Kief privately in 2014.

The couple were in a clandestine relationship for in excess of 35 years. In 2023, Manilow discussed how crucial his husband had been to him during his explosion in popularity in the 1970s.

“When my fame skyrocketed, it was just crazy. And, you know, returning to an lonesome hotel suite, you can land in a lot of difficulty if you, you know, you’re by yourself night after night,” he said.
