Fast bowler Gus Atkinson Compounds the English team's Injury Worries.

'Serious blow' for England after Atkinson leaves the field suffering a hamstring problem.

Gus Atkinson further complicated the injury concerns plaguing England when he left the playing area early on day two of the Boxing Day Test against Australia.

The right-arm seamer felt a problem in his left hamstring immediately following a delivery in his spell at the MCG.

The touring camp reported Atkinson reported "discomfort" and was to take time off the field for further assessment "over the next few hours".

The concluding match in this Ashes battle in Sydney begins at the end of the week.

The visitors have previously lost fast bowlers one seamer due to knee trouble and another paceman because of a side injury on this Ashes tour.

Matthew Fisher was brought into the squad as injury reinforcement.

Atkinson struggled in the opening two Tests, managing only a handful of scalps.

He was omitted for the Adelaide match, before being recalled for the Melbourne Test to fill the void.

Surrey's Atkinson performed better in the fourth Test, bagging two scalps in Australia's first innings, then making 28 as a batsman being one of only three English batsmen to reach double figures.

Following a brief spell late on the first day, he returned on Saturday morning and removed Scott Boland Scott Boland caught behind.

However, at the end of his spell, he sent down a variation to the batsman and immediately felt his left hamstring.

The English bowler returned to the side for the Melbourne match after being left out the previous Test.
