An extensive two-month journey circling the Australian Coast has been cancelled following the fatal incident of an older woman who was stranded by the cruise liner on a distant coastal location.

The passenger had been hiking on Lizard Island with shipmates from the cruise ship, but separated from the party for a rest. The liner sailed away leaving her and returned after some time after the personnel realised the woman was unaccounted for.

A major hunt located her person the following day.

Investigative bodies are investigating the event, together with investigators and the state coroner.

Chief Executive of the voyage organizer announced that passengers and personnel on the vessel were informed that the rest of the journey had been terminated due to the "tragic passing and prior mechanical issues".

In a statement, he added that guests would be issued a complete reimbursement, and said the operator was working "to coordinate the homeward trips of the passengers via private aircraft".

Authorities also released an updated communication, and said they had "issued a order to the Commander" preventing any further travelers from boarding the ship.

The representative said that they would inspect the ship in the port city upon its return.

Timeline of Occurrences

The vessel initially left Cairns on 24 October, and was merely two days into the voyage at the time of the senior passenger's demise. Lizard Island was the opening port on the journey.

Travelers on board - who typically pay large sums of money to join the voyage - were taken there for a day trip with the possibility of trekking or snorkelling.

The child of the victim said that her loved ones was "stunned and saddened that the ship left the island after an organised tour without my parent".

Via her announcement, she described her mother as an "energetic octogenarian" who was a affiliate of a bushwalking group.

"From the little information we have been provided, it appears that there was a lapse of care and common sense," she mentioned.

She continued that she hoped the examination would be able to determine what "the organization should have undertaken that might have preserved Mum's being".

"Based on information from the police that it was a extremely warm afternoon, and she fell ill on the mountain ascent," she explained.

"Officials suggested her to head down, without accompaniment. Then the boat sailed away, seemingly without conducting a headcount.
